Forwarding Numbers

Make your buzzer ring multiple phones at the same time.

Updated over 5 years ago

One of the great features of Buzzly is that when a guest dials you on your building's buzzer, the phone call can be sent to multiple phones simultaneously. These phones are called 'Forwarding Numbers'.

Using Forwarding Numbers

When forwarding numbers are activated on a Buzzly Number, buzzer calls will be sent to all active forwarding numbers simultaneously. The call will be connected to the first person that answers their phone. When this happens, all others will be disconnected.

Each time a buzzer call is answered by a forwarding number, Buzzly will record which phone answered the call and log this in your Buzz History.

You may have up to 10 verified forwarding numbers in your account at any time. Depending on the plan you've chosen, you may set up to 2, 3, or 5 of these numbers as active forwarding numbers (ones that will get simultaneous calls).

Note: If an active forwarding number is a cell phone that is set to go straight to voicemail, that will likely happen before anyone else has a chance to answer. It's important to deactivate phones that may be off for extended periods of time. For this reason, it's also recommended that you silence, rather than reject, calls coming in when you're not available to answer.

Adding a Forwarding Number

Forwarding numbers can be added to your account and applied to any Buzzly Number(s) that you set up. You may add a Forwarding Number in the Settings & Forwarding section of your Buzzly Number, or in the Forwarding Numbers section of your account. The steps to add the number are the same regardless of which section you use.

To add a forwarding number:

  • In the phone number field, enter your 10-digit phone number including the area code.

  • In the Nickname field, enter a nickname for this number. i.e. "Ben's Cell"

  • Click Add Number

  • You will be given two verification options, Text Me or Call Me. choose whichever you prefer. Buzzly will text you or call you with a verification code.

  • Enter the Verification code you receive. If you do not receive a code, you will be given an option to re-send the code after a minute or so.

  • Enter the Verification code you receive. If you do not receive a code, you will be given an option to re-send the code after a minute or so.

Activating/Deactivating Forwarding Numbers

Forwarding Numbers that you've added are available to all Buzzly Numbers you have in your account. In order for a Forwarding Number to receive simultaneous calls, you need to activate it on a Buzzly number. You can activate and deactivate numbers whenever and as often as you like. This can be especially helpful if you have a temporary guest, home-sharing tenant, or renter that you'd like to be able to receive calls from your buzzer.
