What exactly is a Virtual Fob and how does it work?

All about Buzzly's Virtual Fobs

Updated over 2 years ago

Our patent pending Virtual Fobs are one of Buzzly's most handy features. (Our Chief Snuggle Officer 🐢gets his walks through the use of one!)

A Virtual Fob is a special secure link that you can generate and send to a trusted person from your Dashboard so they can unlock your buzzer when you're not around.Β

When this trusted person opens the link on their mobile device, they will tap a button on the screen to activate the fob for a 60-second window. Next, the Virtual Fob will tell them to dial your buzz code, and here's where the magic happens. While their fob is activated, Buzzly will respond to the buzzer call and unlock the door instead of bothering you with the call. Once the activation window closes, your buzzer's function goes back to normal (call forwarding) and you'll receive a notification letting you know that a Virtual Fob was used to open your door.

From your dashboard, you can decide when the Virtual Fob can be used. Is it valid every day? Every Tuesday and Wednesday between 8am and 10am? Or maybe just this Friday to Sunday for your home-sharing guest. You can change and update this validity whenever you like, even after you've sent the Virtual Fob to someone! And of course, Virtual Fobs can be temporarily deactivated or fully deleted at any time.
